Pocket Dolly BASIC

New Item!!

The Pocket Dolly™ BASIC gives you the same smooth movement as our standard Pocket Dolly™ , but without the crank handle system. Get smooth, consistent, short-run dolly shots, without having to carry around a dolly system and track. At just 38" in length and 6 pounds, the Pocket Dolly™ BASIC is very portable, so you can always get the shot you need, where ever you are. Cameras weighing up to 20 pounds are supported, with the Pocket Dolly™ BASIC mounted flush to our Hercules 2.0 head on our K-Pod System™ tripod, with no additional supports needed.

Comes with quick release plate and receiver, for quick and easy camera mounting.

If mounting the Pocket Dolly™ BASIC to a standard fluid head and tripod via a quick release plate, rather than to the Hercules 2.0 head, we recommend using additional support, like a small light stand or monopod. WHY? Click here to read more below.

If you are looking for a heavy duty min-dolly / slider solution for heavier cameras like the RED ONE or 35mm adapter rigs, check out the Kessler CineSlider™ .

Pocket Dolly™ BASIC is ON BACKORDER until approximately 2/10/2010

Mounting of Pocket Dolly to
Standard fluid head –vs- Hercules 2.0

You can mount the Pocket Dolly to any standard video fluid head but the quick release plate only has one small, shallow threaded screw that may not be able to hold fast once the load (your camera) travels away from the head as it will increase the leverage and could rip the mounting screw from the rail. Even if the screw does not rip free from the rail it may be unstable because the mounting area of the quick release plate is small and has a rubber cushion that will not support the dolly securely. As with any of the “slider” type dollys, the only half way stable way to mount them to a “standard” style video fluid head would be to attach the quick release plate to one end of the Pocket Dolly and lock it into the fluid head. Next support the other end with either another tripod with fluid head, mono pod or lighting/ c stand. This method will normally offer a fairly stable platform but due to being supported by two points this will prevent any tilts, spins, rolls, lifts, drops or jib style maneuvers.

The Hercules will allow all of the for mentioned maneuvers because it is made of solid billet aluminum that unlike thin cast aluminum or plastic, will not flex and will allow the Pocket Dolly to be mounted by way of being bolted down through the rail into the top of the head with two bolts that can not rip free. This style of mounting will offer up no flex and provide the stable and secure mount  over any other mounting options.
